Recite your vows on the lawn overlooking the Fore River, with unspoiled forests in the background. Even though you're only two miles from downtown Portland, the scene looks almost like it did in the 1800's. In the late 19th century, this tiny peninsula was where canal boats from Maine's interior met railroad freight cars on their path up and down the New England coast. Goods were transferred from boat to rail and rail to boat, feeding Maine's growing largest city and its interior towns.
Today, Thompson's Point is undeniably quieter than in the years when this spot was home to a hub of commercial activity. Still, you can feel the history and the industrial energy of this place as you retire for dinner and drinks in the newly refurbished and thoroughly modernized Brick South, which was once a machine shop for the Maine Central Railroad. Twinkling lights shape intimate spaces as your guests enjoy cocktails from the built-in bar, housed in a former tool shed.
