Thompson’s Point, a dynamic mixed-use neighborhood bringing together a wide variety of great Maine companies and family-focused arts, entertainment, and cultural offerings, is launching its latest programming, Moonlight Cinema, with an
invitation for participation from our community.
Beginning with its launch on Saturday, August 8, Moonlight Cinema will feature movies
that are aimed at opening up conversations about matters of race and
representation in our community. The Moonlight Cinema series is designed to provide
accessible and engaging opportunities to use film to help families have
conversations about race, and to foster deeper discussions about the forms of
social inequities that black, indigenous, and people of color have faced for
centuries. The series is family-friendly and accessible to audiences of all ages. As
Thompson’s Point owner and developer, Christopher Thompson notes: “We hope the
community will come and join us for a fun night in a safe, outdoor environment
with your kids. And we hope that when families leave, it will be with the seeds
of new ways of seeing their neighbors having been planted. Our goal is that the
experience of joining us for this series leads to conversations at home about
what your family saw and heard, how you and your kids felt, and how we can all
work harder to make a more just and equitable society, beginning here where we
all live and work.”
Entrance is complimentary for all. We hope our guests will consider making a donation to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s Legal Defense
Fund. Thompson’s Point will match donations dollar for dollar from our concessions sales proceeds up to 20% of total sales.
